Here’s how it works.
We Score Relative Effort, Not Absolute Fitness
NestEgg doesn’t ask “How fit are you?”
It asks “How hard did you work relative to you?”
That’s why our system is built on:
- Exercise Points (to measure absolute exercise load)
- A Levels handicap system (to level the playing field)
- Team averages (so everyone matters equally)
This isn’t accidental.

Step 1: Exercise Points (What You Earn)
Every workout earns Exercise Points.
These points represent real exercise dose, not proxies like steps or check-ins.
The Exercise Points Formula

1. Duration
How long you exercised
This is simply the number of minutes you spent exercising.
- 30-minute walk → 30 minutes
- 45-minute gym session → 45 minutes
- 60-minute cycle → 60 minutes
Longer sessions earn more points — but duration alone doesn’t tell the full story.
2. Intensity
How hard your body actually worked
This is where NestEgg becomes fair — and credible.
Intensity is derived from your heart-rate data during the workout, using information your wearable already captures:
- Average heart rate
- Resting heart rate
- Maximum heart rate
From this, NestEgg calculates Intensity, which reflects how hard you had to work, not absolute speed or output.
In plain English:
- Two people doing the same activity can earn different points
- Because the system measures how hard their body was working
- People who are less fit, have to work harder to do the same exercise
Intensity Levels (What the Numbers Mean)

This means:
- Brisk walking still counts
- Hard sessions score highly
- All activity types are treated fairly
Why Intensity Is Capped at 4.0
Intensity has a maximum value of 4.0 — by design.
The cap exists to ensure:
- Safety – no incentive for unhealthy extremes
- Fairness – elite athletes can’t dominate with short maximal efforts
- Sustainability – consistent training beats dangerous spikes
Without the cap, the system would reward all-out efforts at the expense of long-term health.
With it, smart, repeatable effort wins — which is exactly what builds lasting habits.
3. Resistance (Strength) Bonus
Strength training matters, so NestEgg counts it properly.
Workouts that include qualifying resistance training receive a:
+25% Exercise Points bonus
This reflects the proven importance of strength training for:
- Metabolic health
- Bone density
- Injury prevention
- Long-term function
It also ensures gym sessions aren’t undervalued compared to cardio.

Strength Bonus (+25% Exercise Points)
NestEgg applies a +25% Exercise Points bonus to workouts that are classified as strength or resistance-based. This reflects the critical role strength training plays in long-term health, including metabolic fitness, bone density, injury prevention, and functional movement. When a submitted workout matches one of the qualifying strength workout types below (as recorded by your wearable platform), the bonus is applied automatically — no manual input required. This ensures that gym sessions, Pilates, climbing, and body-weight strength work are valued fairly alongside cardio-based activities.
Qualifying Strength Workout Types

The platform column reflects how different wearable ecosystems classify workouts. NestEgg uses the workout type provided by your connected device to determine eligibility for the strength bonus.
A Simple Example
- 40-minute workout
- Moderate–vigorous effort (Intensity = 1.6)
- Includes strength training
Calculation:
- Base points = 40 × 1.6 = 64
- Strength bonus = +25%
- Total Exercise Points = 80
These points count toward your weekly points target.
Step 2: The Levels Handicap System
(How NestEgg levels the playing field)
Every Egg competes at a Level based on current fitness.
Each Level has a weekly Exercise Points target.
Lower Levels → lower targets
Higher Levels → higher targets
This allows beginners and elite athletes to compete fairly.

~150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise plus strength training per week.
Step 3: Your Weekly Level Score (Your %)
Each week, your performance is expressed as a percentage:
Level Score = (Exercise Points Earned / Weekly Target) x 100%
Examples:
- Hit your target → 100%
- Exceed it → 110%, 120%, 150%
- Fall short → 80%, 60%

Step 4: Promotion & Demotion
(The system adapts as you go)
NestEgg adjusts difficulty automatically:
- Exceed higher targets → move up levels
- Score below 50% → drop one level
- 50–100% → stay where you are
This keeps the challenge:

- Appropriately difficult

Step 5: Team Scoring (How Your Nest Wins)
You compete as part of a Nest of 5 Eggs.
Each week, your Nest score is the average of all five individual scores.
Not the total.
